Clubhouse Convos Live Launch on YouTube
Clubhouse Conversations is migrating to YouTube, and you can watch a one-hour livestream every Monday through Friday at 11:30 AM with all the news and information you need related to social audio and the creator economy.
This newsletter is converting to a weekly newsletter to reference blogs and discuss the schedule. You can always access the streams via your email at any time before and after the stream.
That’s the power of a creator-first platform like YouTube. Not only can I let you know in advance about my monetized livestreams, but you’ll forever have these links and emails to refer back to them.
With any luck, we’ll get some other Clubhouse uses on a Zoom call to talk with me, but they’re all basically afraid of being shunned by associating with me for the time being. It’s cool — I listened for three months and have plenty to say about everything.
Here’s this week’s Clubhouse Convos schedule:
Clubhouse Conversations May 31, 2021 — Cult Leaders and Toxicity
In today’s episode, I break down the many ways Clubhouse culture is like a cult. I touch on topics related to broken technical problems, toxic culture, moderation, the effort it takes to be a listener, and how exhausting it is being involved in the app at all.
Then I break down a review of Johnny Walker Whiskey and make a cocktail to show how real companies give job aids and help their users.
Clubhouse Conversations June 1, 2021 — Creator First Pilot Season
The Creator First Pilot Season was CEO Paul Davison’s way of trying to encourage more high-quality content. He dangled a carrot of $5,000/mo for 3 months on a stick and gave everyone a $1000 budget to create a pilot. Then he failed to support it, nobody showed up, and a lot of the wrong people were selected.
I’ll discuss who should have made it, who should never be given a platform, and why the creators who lost ultimately won their freedom. I’ll also highlight creators who weren’t included but should have been, like voice-over actors and beatboxers.
Clubhouse Conversations June 2, 2021 — PTR for Non-Audio Creators
The entire Creator First Pilot season focused only on audio creators. Nobody with a newsletter was selected, nor was any of the many talented PTRtists on the platform. Everything involved in the logo above represents the work of an artist or designer who never gets respect on Clubhouse.
Clubhouse can’t even design its own logo and prefers to harvest the faces of its minority users. It believes this digital blackface (now in Asian) is an acceptable way to honor those creators. But hiring and paying graphic designers is something nobody on Clubhouse will ever do.
I’ll dive deep into the disrespect against all non-audio creators (and even audio creators too).
Clubhouse Conversations June 3, 2021 — Clubhouse TOS v 360 Contracts
The Clubhouse Terms of Service contain a lot of legal terminology related to subscription payments and user responsibilities. It’s very much outlined like a 360 deal used in the music industry used to keep control of an artist’s entire brand and career.
In today’s episode, I’ll dive into the Clubhouse TOS to show you the problematic verbiage. This is the kinda stuff that was weaponized in an attempt to deplatform users like Kris and Ed, and it’s vital everyone understands the terms of the cult they’re supporting.
Clubhouse Conversations June 4, 2021 — Mod Badge Chaos
It’s Friday, and that means all you suckers with a corporate job get to wear jeans today. As for me, I’ll likely be pantsless off camera while explaining mod badges and how they’re abused in every direction on Clubhouse. This is one of the most poorly supported features on the platform and a major reason people leave.
We’ll also discuss how empty some of the most popular clubs are and how they’re sitting unsold and unused because nobody wants to buy them.
