Clubhouse Convos April 14 — Thought for Your Penny
Happy Ramadan, everybody!
From April 12 through May 12, Muslims are fasting, which is something to be mindful of. Some people may be cranky from not eating, and the weather is warming up as we speak. Clubhouse is celebrating Ramadan, and I’m changing up my sleep schedule to prepare for the Arizona summer.
Although I’m on the opposite side of the globe from the Arab world, I live in a hot, arid desert where shade is a premium. That means I’m turning nocturnal to be awake for the 6ish hours of night sky I’m lucky to get for the next six months.
The economy is picking up, and crypto is reaching all-time high valuations. People have high hopes of the future, as the Creator First Pilot Program is rolling out soon. And brands are continuing to test the Clubhouse waters, with IHOP dipping a bacon-covered toe into the grease for some interesting morning ASMR.
In fact, Celebrity Clubhouse is one of the easiest ways to sell your friends on the value of this platform.
Celebs Who Tried Doing Clubhouse Right
Clubhouse is a great place to interact with your favorite celebrities. Hip-hop legends like The Game, Snoop Dogg, MC Hammer, and Lupe Fiasco are regularly on. Deadmau3 has regular fun on the platform. Pamela Anderson joined this week, while Grimes can be found hanging out with the a16z crowd.
I’ve seen Lupe, Snoop, Paris Hilton, and other celebs pull up in fan-made rooms for sporadic AMAs. Leah Lamarr created a place for comedians to come around too. While comedians like Dane Cook hide from fans, others make themselves available for fans as often as possible.
And Kevin Hart made Clubhouse history showing up in a room questioning if he’s funny. Of course, no big-name comedian nor celeb ever stays unless they’re desperate.
Cook compares his social presence on Clubhouse to MySpace, where he became one of the first comics to forge a digital lane. It’s the interactive and intimate nature of listening to and learning from each other that makes the platform so special. Cook is someone who’s been dragged in the media, so seeing the other side of him is great.
It just would be nice if he actually talked with fans instead of at them. Most celebs do on that app.
Tony Hawk, for example, is great at connecting with young fans at skate parks, but his Clubhouse room ended on a disappointing note, as he didn’t leverage the audience interaction.
Still, celebrities from Fab 5 Freddy to Justin Bieber are aware of Clubhouse, and the pending Android release will surely draw more big names who will never return as well.
Yesterday’s Best Convo
Doctor’s Panel on COVID Vaccines — The U.S. is pausing the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine after blood clots formed in some patients. This thankfully brought the medical community together on Clubhouse to host several rooms discussing the topic and breaking it down so everybody in the community can be well informed. Be sure to thank these essential workers if you see them in your hallways.

An Evening of Obstacle Destruction 6:00 PM PDT — Comedian and actor Dane Cook is a Clubhouse regular and one of the platform’s celebrity pioneers.
